Understanding the Grade

These grading rules are established by NOFMA. Many manufacturers have defined their own proprietary grades that further segment the available flooring options and create comparisons with the standard grades. We offer two non-standard grades of oak wood flooring: #3 common (utility) and character (natural).

What is Engineered Wood Flooring?

Engineered Wood Flooring Engineered Wood Flooring is specially constructed to give it more stability than normal solid wood flooring. The boards are created from layers of real wood, which is pressed together under extremely high pressures, resulting in material that holds several advantages over regular solid wood boards. Engineered flooring is not as prone to expanding or shrinking due to changes in humidity and temperature as solid wood boards. It will not so readily absorb moisture from the sub-floor following installation. The way that engineered boards are manufactured means that the finished product is more durable and stable than ordinary solid wood boards, while also having the same look and appeal.

What is Pre Finished Solid Wood Flooring?

Pre-finished wood floors are pre-finished in the factory, hence the name, so that they can be installed quickly in your home or commercial building. By finishing them in the factory, you avoid the mess involved with sanding and finishing regular wood floors.

Cost is lower for pre-finished floors because finishing done in a factory setting is less labor-intensive, therefore saving labor costs. Also, pre-finished floors are typically more durable than site-finished floors because the finishing is done in a temperature-controlled, dust-free environment.
