Description

Attributes American Black Walnut (juglans nigra) has a heartwood which ranges from a deep, rich dark brown to a purplish black; the sapwood is between almost white and tan in color. The variation from heartwood to sapwood is such that some flooring manufacturers steam Walnut lumber to bleed the darker heartwood hues into the sapwood, thus achieving more color homogeneity. The grain is mostly straight and open, though there are also burled or curly grains. The pores are situated like Hickory and Persimmon yet are smaller in size.
Ideal for Prized by woodworkers, Walnut is used for furniture, flooring, gunstocks, paneling, and an especially popular choice for 18th Century reproduction pieces.
